A new variation of the standard 'phlishing' scam is currently doing the rounds. An email purporting to be from the HMRC informs recipients that they are eligible for a substantial tax refund. All they have to do is send all their personal details on an attached form.HMRC have asked never to respond to an email of this kind, they do not send emails of this nature and it is only a tool for gaining all of your personal details.More Information is on the HMRC website including copies of the emails and attachments sent and help if you have recieved one already. Please click on the link below for more information.https://www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/examples.htm
Please please, ensure that your self assessment tax return is submitted by the 31st January 2012. This year HMRC will automatically fine you £100 if filed later, whether they owe you tax or you them and an interest charge will be applied to late payment of taxes. If you are wanting to submit your first tax return online please also be aware that setting yourself up online to be able to do this for the first time can take between 7-10 days as well as if you need to reset any passwords from previous logins.Aim for the middle of January to submit and you will have the time to sort any problems, website down time is another factor with everyone submitting at the same time. You can always provide provisonal figures by 31st January and redo with the correct figures later as when calculated and avoid the fine, although you will still be expected to pay a small amount of interest on any tax that is paid after the 31st January.Need any advice please email emily@easyaccountingsolutions.co.uk or tel 07927 629911
