• Olde Maps

  We were looking for a map of our ancestral Welsh county, Carmarthenshire. We found it at Talbot Court Galleries. A John Speed map c. 1627, it was in excellent condition; clear, colorful and clean. But the price seemed a bit high for us. The gentleman assisting us, John Trevers, suggested we visit the map gallery at Harrod's in London and if we found a similar map at a better price, he would refund our purchase price. We bought the Talbot map and had it shipped and a few days later looked in at Harrod's. To our surprise, we found the same or a similar map but in much poorer condition. At about five times the Talbot price! We have had our map framed in a double-sided protective glass frame and it occupies an honored place in our home. We are very pleased with the service and quality of Talbot Court Galleries and hope to visit there again soon.

  Heading to the Cotswolds for a romantic break? If so make sure you visit this picture shop in Stow-on-the-Wold. Guaranteed you'll find a perfect gift for someone. It's a treasure trove of old maps, wood cuts and antique prints.Not explaining this very well? Second attempt...The owner, John Trevers, knows everything about everything and can find you anything. He seeks out beautiful ancient texts from all over the world, lovingly tears them up (I'm sure there is a more technical word for this) and frames them. He has, for example, pages from fashion magazines in the 1870s, coats of arms, pictures from Victorian fairytale books and of course, hundreds of ancient maps. If you have a dad who is a dog enthusiast, a mum who is a costume lover, or a friend who's in love with Italy, you will find the perfect present for them in this shop.Still not explaining it very well? It's a bit like an Ollivanders for grown ups. You'll get goosebumps. Visit.
