5 stars...not necessarily for coolness, but for sheer, un self-conscious metaphorically foam-covered fun. Now I'm unsure whether during Cheltenham Festival week the agenda and the music played differs from it's usual formula, but reflecting on the week itself - a week during which myself and friends popped in every night - I was bowled over by it's enthusiastic reverie. Great bar staff, an enthusiastically rowdy sing-along clientele of all ages (really, 21-70...), friendly security, fair prices. Unglamorous and sweaty, but the varied soundtrack and the whole-audience vocal participation was great to witness and even better to be part of. At the end of a day's racing we were looking for relaxed and friendly and an opportunity to blow off good-natured steam. Not scene-centred, or trendy, just leave your-pretensions-at-the-door fun.Full marks on all scores. Minor demerit for the toilets...with their small size they were always going to take a grubby hammering ! God if anyone knows of a club in the South East that encourages stretching your vocal 'talents' to a variety of 'anthems' let me know. We'll be back next year, when my shirts are finally clean.
